Bethany's Cancer Page Organizations
OK, so you've gotten the diagnosis....now what? I know our world stopped in October. I missed a ton of work, my husband missed a ton of work and school. So there we were, in Memphis, with no income and a very sick little girl. And when she wasn't sick, she was homesick and missing school and all of her friends. Our social worker pointed us to a few organizations, and we found a few more. Here's a list to get you started, but first I'd like to say thanks to a few groups.... To St. Jude's,
for working so hard to give us back our healthy daughter! And a very big thanks to all the people who donate their time and efforts to help raise money for cancer research and treatment programs!

CancerCare, Inc.is dedicated to helping people and families dealing with cancer. They offer counseling, support groups, workshops and teleconferences. Even though they concentrate on the New York/New Jersey area, they can refer you to resources where you live. The Leukemia Society of America offers support services, financial assistance, and educational programs and materials. You'll need to check with your local chapter to see which services they offer. The services provided by the American Cancer Society vary by chapter, but most include counseling services, financial assistance, and patient advocacy. Candlelighters Childhood Cancer Foundation has a variety of children's services, a wonderful information library, a youth newsletter, and programs on insurance concerns. The Make-A-Wish Foundation grants wishes to children who are terminally ill. If you're lucky enough to get a good prognosis, you may want to check out a few other wish-granting organizations. The following groups work with children who are chronically (not necessarily terminally) ill:
I will continually be adding to this list, but this should get you started for now! And I'm always open to suggestions....Just e-mail me! |
